      Altamont - Verdon Lowell Hucke, 86 of Altamont died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

      He was born Aug. 24, 1915, north of Mound Valley to Charles Albert and Laura Alice (Mathis) Hucke. He worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons for a few years and was a farmer for 42 years.

      He lived in the Mound Valley and Altamont areas most of his life.

      He married Vivian Ruth Jarrett on Dec. 25, 1939, at the United Brethren Church in Dennis. They were married 62 years. She survives of the home.

      He attended the Altamont Independent Baptist Church.

      Other survivors include one son, Charles Hucke of Cherryvale; two daughers, Sharon Kay Hunt of Eureka and Velma Morain of Copan, Okla.; one brother, Elvin Dale Hucke of Salem, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

      He was preceded in death by one brother, Clair Hucke; and three sisters, Sylvia Corser, Delma Myers and an infant sister.

      The service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Altamont Independent Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Pruitt officiating, assisted by the Rev. Shawn Mumy. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale.

      Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Bath funeral Home of Altamont. Friends may call from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

      Memorials to the church may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
