ANOTHER CITIZEN GONE
Death of Conrad Hucke - Coroner's Verdict - Whiskey's Work.
Our citizens were startled last Tuesday morning by the report, that Conrad Hucke had died suddenly Monday night. Inquiry proved the report to be only too true. His death was undoubtedly caused by the long and continued use of intoxiicating drink. He had not been drinking for some time, but several weeks ago he again commenced and continued until last Saturday, when he swore off. His constitution, however, had been totally destroyed and on Monday night he fell a victim of strong drink. He was 45 years of age and has lived here for many years. During the late rebellion he served in the U.S. Signal corps. His funeral occurred yesterday, from the M. E. church at this place, and was largely attended. Mr. Hucke leaves a wife and seven children to mourn his death. Below we give the verdict of the coroner's jury, which in itself tells the sad story.
STATE OF IOWA, )
Ringgold County. )
An inquisition holden at Mt. Ayr, in Ringgold county, Iowa, on the 20th day of March, A.D. 1883, before S. In testimony whereof, the said jurors have hereunto set their hands the day and year aforesaid.
