Mr. Geil, 71 years old, president of the Romeiser Company, who died at his home at 1009 Olive street early Friday morning, was a native of Germany where he was born September 13, 1861, a son of John and Katherina Geil, nee Koehler. While he was still a small boy, his parents emigrated to this country and settled in Belleville. He was educated in the public schools.
Mr. Geil was twice married. His first wife was Miss Ida Rothgangel who passed away about twenty-four years ago. Some years later he married again, his second wife being Mrs. Eugenia Hucke (nee Rubach), who survives him.
Mr. Geil was childless but many years ago adopted foster daughters, both of whom survive him. They are:
Cora, wife of Arthur Kanzler, 8800 W Main st
Ida, wife of Wm Funkhauser, Manteca, Calf.
He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Katherine Griebel of St. Louis and three grandchildren, Glenn and Irma Funkhauser, children of William; and Arthur, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arther Kanzler.
Funeral services for Emil Geil, 71 years old, president of the Romeiser Company, who died at his home, 1009 Olive street, early Friday morning, will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
The services will be held in his late home and will be conducted by the Rev. Otto F. Pessel, pastor of St. Paul Evangelical Church. Burial at Walnut Hill Cemetery with Renner-Schneider Undertaking Co. in charge.
Business associates and close friends of Mr. Geil will serve as pallbearers. They are; William Beiser, Charles R. Grossart and Emil Lutz, all of the Romeiser Company when the store was established by the late P. M. Romeiser in September, 1878. Fourteen years later when the business incorporated, he became a stockholder and was elected vice-president. Following the death of Mr. Romeiser in 1916 he was elected president, a position he filled until his death.
