Marie Irene Quirin, nee Roos, 88, of Smithton, IL, born February 2, 1918, in Millstadt, IL, died Friday, January 19, 2007, at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, IL.
Mrs. Quirin was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, IL, and the Women's Club at the church. She was a charter member and the first president of the Smithton Senior Citizens. She had organized and conducted a yearly Red Cross Blood Drive in Smithton for about 20 years. Marie also published and edited a local Smithton Newsletter for the community in the 1960's. She loved her family dearly and never hesitated to help them in any way, whether by moral support, financial support, babysitting, or just listening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin G. Quirin, whom she married April 19, 1939, and who died June 2, 1988, after 49 years of marriage; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Robert Kennedy; a grandson, Brian King; her parents, George R. and Matilda, nee Rohr, Roos; her four sisters, Linda (Richard) Ehrstein, Tekla (Arthur) Kruse, Olivia (Dewey) Hirsh, and Isabella (Leo) Hermann; and her brother, Richard (Barbara) Roos.
